La Fatoria
The farm of Giuliano Farina

Our trip this November to Sicily was fantastic as usual. We spent lots of time with friends and family, learning more about the family olive business and most importantly we made our first purchase of olive oil for the year.
The photo above was taken on a rainy day from the farm of our cousin Giuliano. The olives our oil was pressed from are from the trees on the left. On a clear day the castello of Catlabellotta can be seen rising from across the valley in the background.

Helping cousins Lucia and Maria harvest some younger trees

On Monday we went to a family plot and helped out harvesting some younger trees. These trees are 6-7 years old and were full of fruit. There was an adjoining plot with some 100+ year old trees that were just beautiful.
Some olives from these family groves are sold, but most go to pressing oil for the family's use throughout the year. The average family in this region uses 100 liters of oil every year!

On Wednesday we helped out with some trees in another family grove. These trees are around 200 years old. In this photo you can see the castello in the background.
