Like so many other Italian Americans, our story begins at the turn of the century when our grandfather Sebastiano Colletti immigrated to America from Caltabellotta, Sicily. Our father made his first trip to the 'old country' in the 30's and we made our first trip in the 70's. Since then we have maintained close ties with our family in Caltabellotta, and we visit often.
On each trip to Caltabellotta we came back with our bags packed with goodies and the most prized would be a tin of olive oil. Not oil from a store, but from the personal supply of a family member. Oil pressed from olives harvested by hand from trees on family plots along the hillsides of Caltabellotta. After each trip when the oil runs out, we search around for a decent replacement but are always sorely disappointed. So we have kicked around the idea of importing oil since the 70’s and here we are.
